Steps Toward Proper Furnace Repair
Posted on: 4 January 2019
When you need your furnace repaired, you want to know that it will be done in a timely manner. There are steps you should take to ensure that your furnace repair is done according to your expectations. When you follow these steps, your furnace will be running and fully functional again in no time.
Clear the Most Direct Path to the Furnace
If your furnace is in the basement and the back door of your home would be the closest point of entry to reach the furnace, clear a path from the back door to the furnace in the basement. Your HVAC technician should be able to reach your furnace without having to move boxes of stuff and without tripping over anything. The entire area around the furnace should be free and clear of stuff too, since the technician will need to walk all the way around the furnace to open different access points.
Schedule the Repair
Some technicians are willing to wing an appointment, especially if you insist that it is an emergency repair. However, all of the other repair technicians will want to schedule an appointment. Be sure to schedule your appointment on a day and time when you can arrange to be at home for the job.
Be at Home to Allow the Technician Inside
The technician cannot repair your furnace if you are not at home to let him or her in the house. It goes without saying that most technicians will not enter your home to repair your furnace if you are not there, even if you have left the door unlocked and told the technician to go right in. You need to be at home to allow the technician to enter and grant the technician to come and go from the same point of entry while fixing your furnace. After he or she determines what is wrong with your furnace, it is likely that he or she will be coming in and out to fetch parts from his or her truck.
If You Need to Replace Your Furnace...
In the event that your furnace is so old that the technician needs to replace the furnace, then be absolutely sure that you have cleared the path completely from the access point to the furnace. Your technician will need to remove the furnace and be able to get the appliance through the doorways without having to worry about anything getting in the way. A new furnace may be installed faster and easier if the way is clear.
