The air that is pushed through your home and that you breathe goes through your air ducts. You change the air filter on a regular basis to keep the air clean; you should also clean your air ducts on a regular basis in order to keep the air in your home clean. There are a few signs that may indicate that your air ducts are contaminated.
#1 Bad Odor Coming from Your System
When you turn on your HVAC system, the air that comes out of it should not have any odor at all. It should be almost odorless, or just smell like the rest of the air in your home. If the air coming out of your HVAC system has a bad odor all the time, that odor may be coming from your air ducts. If your air ducts or dirty or harboring items such as mold and bacteria, that could cause your air to smell off. If you change out your air filter on time and the air from your HVAC system still doesn't smell right, the source may be your air ducts.
#2 Bio-Slime in Your Condensation Pan
Your condensation pan should just contain water. If your condensation pan is full of green and off-color bio-slime, that is a sign that something is not right with your system. More often than not, dirty air ducts are what is behind the bio-slime in your condensation pans.
#3 Visible Debris in Air Vents
Next, when you look down your air vents inside of your home. Can you see dirt and dust inside of your air vents when you remove the covers on your vents? If you can see visible dirt at the entrance to your air vents, just image what is lurking in the rest of your vents that you can't see. When you can see dirt and dust building up inside of your vents, that is a sign that you are going to need to clean your vents.
#4 Recent Renovations
If you have recently renovated your home, you are going to want to clean your air ducts. Renovating your home creates a lot of dirt and dust that ends up inside of your air vents. Some of the dirt could be harmful as well. So you are going to want to make sure that you have your air ducts cleaned if you didn't cover up all the vents in your home during the remodeling process.
#5 Increased Illness
Finally, if your family is suffering from repeated respiratory illness that you can't really explain, the source of your illness may be your ducts. All that dirt and dust is not good for your body.
If the air from your ducts doesn't smell good, if there is bio-slime in your condensation pan, if you can see dirt in your air vents, if you have had your home recently renovated, and or the members of your home keep getting sick, those are all indications that you should get your air ducts cleaned by professional air conditioning maintenance services.Share
